I just got back from a trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina with a group of students from Oregon State University. They are also studying at the Universidad del Bio Bio, but they have their own separate classes and a separate program.
Anyway, when I was in Argentina I realized how much my Spanish has improved. People say that when you study abroad Spanish speaking country there comes a day when you wake up and suddenly Spanish just make sense. I think that day came for me a few weeks ago.
When we rented a go-cart, the lady spoke a million miles an hour, but I understood everything and I could easily say whatever I wanted to say in Spanish. I can't believe how much I've learned since I started studying abroad.

My life dream for elevator sass
So I've decided that one of my goals for Chile is to get extremely comfortable with Spanish because I want to fulfill one of my life's dreams. I want to get into an elevator with people that speak spanish. I want them to say something about me behind my back, not knowing that I speak spanish. Then I want to leave the elevator saying something sassy to them in spanish. Then I want to walk out of the elevator feeling like a boss and thinking to myself, "good thing I studied abroad"
"I wasn't kidding when I told you that I talk in my sleep."
So when I first got to Chile I warned my family. "I do crazy things when I'm sleeping." I told them about how I move things around, I walk around and I've even driven a car while I was sleeping. Moral of the story: be warned.
Francisco's room is next to mine on the second floor. We have to keep our doors open while we sleep because if there is an earthquake and our doors are closed we might not be able to open them. So one night Francisco woke up to me VERY loudly having an imaginary discussion with someone. I was talking so loudly that he got up to make sure that I was okay. When he looked in my room I was walking around my room. I was blabbing in english and randomly saying "no entiendo, no entiendo...." which means "I don't understand, I don't understand...." When Francisco told me what happened the next day I got super excited because my sub-conscious knows Spang-lish. I think I'm learning =)

FĂștbol!
I haven't really done any kind of exercise for 2 months and the food is amazing here, so I figured a good workout was way overdue. I joined a soccer class for girls and it only meets once a week. But our coach/professor is working on forming us into a team to play against other universities. The beginning of the class was spent on doing a random drill but the rest of the time period we scrimmaged. It was awesome. It's nice for once being the one who knows what they're doing, instead of being the one that doesn't know what's going on half the time.
Nunca entiendes!
So I don't know why this was so funny, but it's probably just one of those you-had-to-be-there situations or you-have-to-understand-that-person situation. But tonight I was washing the dishes and Francisco (my brother) was saying something to me. I said, "Como?" (Which means "what?") and he said, "NUNCA entiendes!" (Translation: you NEVER understand!) Of course he was totally kidding, but for some reason it was so ironically hilarious that I couldn't stop laughing.
My water bottle holds more than just water....
My backpack is super old. My friend Lauren used it all throughout high school. She wanted to get rid of it when we graduated so she gave it to me. I've been using it throughout college and the bottom is so worn that it is almost see-through. On the side of my backpack there is a water bottle holder, but because my back pack is so old it is extremely loose.
A few days ago I went to do my business in the little girl's room of my university. When I finished doing nature's call, I exited the stall and my water bottle fell out....right into the toilet. Since I was leaving the stall the door was open and everyone in the bathroom witnessed it. Naturally I screamed a little and than I remembered to compose myself because everyone was watching, so I non-chalantly turned around and plucked it out of the toilet like a lady.

Yoga doer!
I started going to Yoga with my brother Francisco two times a week. It's crazy how terrible I am at yoga. Especially when everyone else is at least 30 years older than me and they look like yoga-studs compared to me. But at least I'm used to feeling sub-par considering I can't really speak spanish and I'm in Chile. But it's cool, I good at laughing at myself =)
